Photography attempts to capture the essence of a single moment in time. Edward S. Curtis spent years in the western US documenting these moments with his camera. He said:
The passing of every old man or woman means the passing of some tradition, some knowledge of sacred rites possessed by no other…consequently the information that is to be gathered, for the benefit of future generations, respecting the mode of life of one of the great races of mankind, must be collected at once or the opportunity will be lost for all time. ~ Edward S. I am no Ansel Adams nor am I an Edward S. Curtis, but I feel that their work and mine are aligned. The visions I see are mine, and when I can capture the lighthouse, the butterfly, the starry skies and live with it for awhile, then share it with you, I feel like we have now shared that moment that will never live again, that will live always in the image, the memory.
